3 major purposes of the Presentation Class
3 April 2005

1. Learn and practice the skills of Western style presentation
2. Learn and practice explaining science and technology in plain English to help bring science to the general public.
3. Learn and practice the importance of asking questions formulating potential answers (guesses), and the acceptance of and subsequent learning from mistakes, by using English in class among students as well as with the instructors.

The most important purpose is the item 1: Learn and practice the skills of Western style presentation. Since time is extremely limited even to accomplish the item 1, help the students with translation is unavoidable although the instructors will do their best to create the environment where the students are exposed to the English communication.

The instructors are thankful to the SSH high school teachersf insight and suggestions to enhance the class. Here is a list of new approaches for the class of 2005 (Heise 17):
1. Decrease the amount of translation in class
2. The instructors will set the class tone which everybody encourages one another to communicate in English
3. (Therefore) The students are required to do their best in asking questions in English and making mistakes
